Spirulina is a blue-green algae that has been nourishing our planet for centuries. Its ultimately high nutritional value was first recognized by the Aztecs who used spirulina as a food source until the 16th century. Since 1974, the United Nations has strongly supported Spirulina "as the best food for the future", and established the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition in 2003.
